Privacy Policy

The short, honest version of how BoopBureau and the FieldBoop app handle your pet photos.

Effective October 7, 2026 · Published by BoopBureau

The short version

  • Pets only. No people's faces, kids, house numbers or license plates.
  • Ask the owner first. Every time. FieldBoop won't send a photo unless you say you did.
  • Your photos stay on your phone. Sending one to the Bureau shares a copy. It never deletes yours.
  • Nothing goes public until the Bureau approves it. Submissions sit in a private review queue first.
  • No selling, no ads, no ad tracking. Not now, not later.
  • Want it gone? Email [email protected] and we'll take it down.

Who we are

BoopBureau is run by a small Maine family that stops for every dog. It includes this website (boopbureau.com), the @boopbureau social accounts, and FieldBoop, our app for logging pets you meet ("boops"). FieldBoop is currently an invite-only web app; this policy also covers future App Store and Google Play versions. When this page says "we" or "the Bureau", it means BoopBureau.

The rules: pets only, ask first

  • Pets only. Frame the animal. Please keep people's faces (especially kids), house numbers, license plates and anything else that identifies a person or a home out of the shot.
  • Ask the owner first. Before you photograph someone else's pet, ask. FieldBoop has an "Asked owner first?" switch, and uploading stays locked until it's on. If the owner says no, that's the end of it.
  • Only send your own photos, or photos you have permission to share.
  • Posting is a separate, extra step. Asking the owner lets you take and send the photo. Before anything is posted publicly, the Bureau checks that it's appropriate and that the owner was OK with it, and may still decide not to post.

What FieldBoop collects

FieldBoop has no accounts. We never ask for your name, email, phone number, contacts or precise location. When you tap Send to Bureau, the app sends:

  • The photo. We strip hidden photo data (GPS location, camera details and other EXIF/XMP info) as it arrives, so the copy we keep has no embedded location.
  • Pet name (optional).
  • Breed guess (for example "Mystery Mix").
  • Town / place (optional, whatever you type). We ask for a town or a general place like "dog park", never an address.
  • Credit name, if you give one (see Credit).
  • Consent answer: whether you said you asked the owner first.
  • Timestamps: when you filed the boop and when we received it.
  • A few technical details: photo size and dimensions, the app version, a random app ID created on your phone (it isn't tied to your name, phone number or advertising ID; it's only used so the same boop isn't saved twice), and the country your connection came from (country only, provided by our host).
  • IP address, used only for rate limiting (stopping spam floods). We don't store your IP address itself: we turn it into a one-way scrambled code, use that to count uploads for the current hour, and delete it automatically within about two hours.

Camera: FieldBoop uses your camera only when you tap to take a photo, and only sees a photo from your library if you pick it.

Emailed boops: if you email us a boop from the website instead, we get what any email contains: your email address and name as it appears, your message and your attachments. We use these only to review your boop and reply to you.

The invite cookie: FieldBoop sets one small cookie that remembers you opened a valid invite link (about 60 days). It isn't used for tracking.

Your photos stay on your phone

FieldBoop saves your photos and cases in your browser's storage on your phone. Sending a boop to the Bureau uploads a copy and never deletes the photo on your phone. You can keep your own copy any time with Save photo. Clearing your browser data or removing the app can delete those local copies, so save any you want to keep first.

Where it's stored

  • FieldBoop submissions are stored in private storage at Cloudflare, the company that hosts our website and app. Only the Bureau can open them.
  • The website and app are hosted on Cloudflare too.
  • Emailed boops live in our Gmail inbox (Google).

These providers may store data on servers outside your country (for example, in the United States). We use them only to run BoopBureau, not to sell or analyze your data.

Who sees it and what becomes public

  • The Bureau team reviews every submission on a private, password-protected review page. No one else browses the queue.
  • Nothing is public until the Bureau approves it for the Evidence Locker, Case Files or @boopbureau socials (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X). Submissions where the owner wasn't asked are never posted.
  • If we post your boop, we show the photo, the pet's name, the breed guess, the town only (never a street, address or exact location) and the credit you chose.
  • We don't share submissions with anyone else, except our hosting providers above, or if the law requires it.

Credit: your choice

You choose how you're credited: your first name, an @handle, or Anonymous. If you don't tell us, we use Anonymous. The current FieldBoop preview doesn't have a credit box yet, so boops sent from the app are credited "Anonymous" unless you email us the name you'd like. Want to change your credit later? Just email us.

Removal and your choices

Email [email protected] with the subject "Remove my boop". Include the pet's name and roughly when you sent it (a screenshot helps). Pet owners can ask too, even if someone else sent the photo. We'll take it off boopbureau.com and our social accounts and delete our stored copy, usually within a few days, and email you when it's done. We can't control copies other people have already shared or saved.

You can also ask to see what we have about you, fix a pet name or credit, or have everything deleted. We'll do this for anyone who asks, wherever you live.

How long we keep things: submissions stay in our private queue until we post them, decide not to use them, or you ask us to delete them. We clear out old ones we won't use. Posted boops stay up until you ask us to remove them. The scrambled rate-limit codes delete themselves within about two hours.

No selling, no ads, and what analytics we use

  • We never sell or rent your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use advertising trackers or data brokers.
  • boopbureau.com uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and check how fast pages load. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't build a profile of you, and doesn't follow you to other sites.
  • The FieldBoop app has no analytics at all.
  • Fonts: both load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for the font files. Like any web request, that shares your IP address with Google.
  • Hosting: Cloudflare handles standard technical data (like IP addresses) to deliver pages and block abuse. The website also uses a small Cloudflare script that hides our email address from spam bots.
  • Cookies: the website sets no cookies of its own. FieldBoop sets only the invite cookie described above.

A note for kids and parents

Pet fans of every age are welcome. If you're under 13 (or under the age where you live that needs a parent's OK), please ask a parent or guardian before you use FieldBoop or send us a boop. Even better, do it together! We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Please keep kids' faces out of photos. If you're a parent and think your child sent us something, email us and we'll delete it.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Submissions are stored privately, and the review page is password-protected. No system is perfect, but we keep what we collect small on purpose.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top. Big changes will also be noted on the website or in the app.
